Masterplan Hafencity
Hamburg, Germany - 1999

The basic idea lies in the assimilation of the new HafenCity with the existing structure of the city centre of Hamburg. The various components are inter-linked without imposing a model on the whole, without breaking the sections into individual precincts. The central area is the district surrounding the Magdeburg Harbour. It forms the backbone of the HafenCity, in which the typographic, spatial, functional and scenic integration of the basins with the HafenCity becomes clear: Working and living directly on the water, in continuity with the historic city centre of Hamburg.
